Grenache is from the Pappas vineyard on Plains Road, the Shiraz from the Dry Creek vineyard on Ryan Road and the Mataro from the Mayfield vineyard on Rogers Road. The fruit was all crushed and destemmed and matured in large format oak, with no filtering or fining before bottling.

We had lots of good names for this wine, it ended up being quite a dilemma deciding which one to use! 50% Cabernet Franc and 38% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Sommerville vineyard on Malpas Road, and 12% Merlot from the Lennon vineyard on Pethick Road. The Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in brand new French oak barriques while the Cabernet Franc and Merlot were aged in old French oak. Like the wines of the Right Bank of Bordeaux, the Cabernet Franc drives the aroma and flavour profile, while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and backbone. The Merlot finishes off the blend by adding some flesh and juiciness to the front palate.

From the Pappas vineyard and Blown Away vineyards on Plains Road, and the Prime vineyard on Tatachilla Road. Perfumed, floral and medium bodied, balanced and long, this Grenache is a pure expression of these three vineyards, with no additions and matured in old French barriques. It's our Archetype.

From a single vineyard on Bayliss Road in the Sellicks Foothills sub region of McLaren Vale. Matured in 75% new French oak, only four barrels produced. Crushed and destemmed and no adjustments. 11-day ferment, then basket pressed to tank to settle off solids, three days later racked to barriques. Our Archetype Shiraz is our attempt at bridging the gap between classic and modern McLaren Vale styles: concentrated and powerful yet restrained. Intense but still elegant.
