93 points - Andrew Graham, www.ozwinereview.com
92% Grenache, 7% Mataro and 1% Shiraz. Grenache From 2 vineyards – Pappas Vineyard, Sellicks Foothills sub region, and Smart Vineyard (planted 1921), Clarendon. Both vineyards sit on Kurrajong geology, with the Clarendon vineyard on poorer, sandier soils than the Pappas vineyard. Both vineyards received similar treatments: crushed and destemmed, with a small percentage of whole berries remaining. The wines spent 10 – 12 days on skins, with a max temp of 32 achieved before cooling. Gentle basket pressing post ferment to tank for settling for 3 days, then using gravity the wines were racked off solids and into very old French and American hogsheads, where they spent 12 months on fine lees. Wines were not filtered or fined. Bottled on 21/6/17, 180 cases produced. 14.2% alc/vol. Artwork by Saul Matthews.
