This is the fourth year we have made Fiano from the Lacey vineyard in the Sellicks Foothills sub region of McLaren Vale, and it is likely our best iteration yet. This grape native to Campania region of southern Italy as well as Sicily. With that as a reference, it is easy to understand why this grape would work well in the McLaren Vale region. It makes sense that we should be choosing to grow grapes that thrive in our regions, and not have to try to make a square peg fit in a round whole with wines like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, where our climate is simply too hot to make delicate, world class examples of these wines. This is a wine that really suits our lifestyle here in the Vale, as it pairs well with the kinds of foods we eat, and provides refreshment in the summer months that only a white wine can.
