From the Lacey vineyard in the Sellicks Foothills subregion of McLaren Vale. This is the 4th year we’ve taken fruit from the Lacey’s Fiano vineyard and was easily some of the nicest fruit we’ve seen come off this vineyard, as well as being the largest amount of fruit we’ve taken from them ever - 3.3t of fruit was harvested on the 20th of February. As per usual, no adds were required, and the wine was fermented on solids in a mix of old oak barrels and tank. Post fermentation however, was when disaster struck. I was moving a 1300L tank of the Fiano and a corner of the pallet it was sitting on disintegrated causing the tank to fall off the pallet and tip over on to its side, knocking off the lid and ejecting almost 900L (or almost ½ our production) onto the ground and down the driveway. Consequently, we’ve bottled only 220 6pks of our 2021 Fiano. Fresh and vibrant, while also delivering texture and mouthfeel. A white wine to suit our warm Mediterranean climate, and the food we eat here. Artwork by Adam Harriden – ‘Colours of the Beach’.
